Firearms seized by police in New York has surged: What does the data say?

Judges issued protection orders against 255 people across New York in 2020, while this year, in just over four months, that number exceeded 2,120. Between 2020 and last November, State Police seized 2,521 firearms under emergency protection orders.

The “Red Flag Law” was enacted in 2019, but last year, Hochul also signed measures expanding who may file an ERPO petition to include healthcare practitioners who have examined the individual within the previous six months.

More of the story.
